Well this is a bit upsetting/depressing.
Awhile ago I blogged about the song "Healer" on Hillsong's new CD This is our God. The backstory was that they guy who wrote, Mike Guglielucci, was suffering with cancer and wrote the song the day he was diagnosed.
The words to the song were bold and courageous, proclaiming that God is the Healer, able to the impossible.
On the DVD of the album recording, Mike sings the song with oxygen tubes and a tank next to him. It seriously brought tears to your eyes.
I typically don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it turns out that Mike wasn't being truthful and he wasn't suffering from a terminal illness at all.
News about this has broke here and here and other places on the blogosphere.
I know the instant reaction is to be angry or rolling your eyes and saying, "not again..."
I honestly feel for Mike and for his family, for Hillsong and for the many people who were impacted by this. I think though it highlights the fact that we are all broken people. We are need healing. We all need the Healer.
Even if the story was made up, and Mike definitely needs to deal with that, I think that it should be a reminder that we can't put our faith in people, but in Christ alone. People will fail but Christ remains.
My prayers go out to Mike and his family and praying that God can truly be the Healer that he needs right now.
"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble."
1 Peter 3:8 (NIV)

dude, that is crazy! it seems we hardly ever see stuff like this coming. i sincerely appreciate your good words though - that's definitely the right attitude to have. way to be, timmy!

Maybe if leaders moved in the gift of discernment they might have seen this man's lie, for whatever reason he did it for.
