University Baptist Church (UBC) may be an unfamiliar name to you. It's a church in Waco, Texas, where David Crowder is the Worship Pastor... that might ring some more bells for you.
Last year I visited UBC with a friend of mine when I was in the Waco-area and first heard their pastor, Kyle Lake, preach (he's the guy on the left in the picture). I instantly fell in love with him. UBC is mainly made up of college students from Baylor University and definitely has the look/feel of a church you'd envision David Crowder being a part of. Very retro, very artsy and completely God-focused.
I dont exactly remember the whole context of what he was preaching on the day I was there, for some reason I'm thinking freedom in worship or something like that and he had his children, twin boys come up and they all danced to a Coldplay video. It was awesome.
Anyway, this afternoon I got some really upsetting news... this morning UBC was celebrating baptisms and a microphone accidentally fell into the baptismal, electrocuting Kyle and the girl he was baptizing and shortly after, Kyle met Jesus face to face.
It's hard to understand but I know God will be glorified out of this, but right now is definitely a 'time to mourn.' Pray for everyone who was there in the service today... I can imagine those images could be pretty haunting. Pray for his wife and their sons and daughter. Pray for David Crowder and his band, they are in the midst of a tour right now. Pray for everyone who calls UBC home and who called Kyle a friend.
Josh Sargent posted an interview with Kyle on The Leadership Blog awhile back. Check it out.
